DTP
Where Steve Jobs is still the winner over Bill Gates
DTP, or desktop publishing, was first introduced in the early 1980’s. Before that, micro and macro mounting specialists took care of page making manually, by cutting and pasting films. With the introduction of the Mac, a revolution in the graphic media was started. From then on, the preparation of files would be digital instead of manually. It was like the typing machine being replaced by the personal computer. Since then several software programs have been tailored to the graphic industry, such as Quark Xpress and Illustrator. Taking care of text correction is now just a matter of seconds, when it used to take hours with the old fashioned scissors and tape. In order for Chevalier to remain on top of new developments, DTP was introduced in our business operations very soon after it had been invented. Now a days, 99.9% of all files are being delivered and transferred digitally. For those few clients still using film, we still have the capability to process their projects. After all, one has to remain flexible and service oriented.
Many companies choose to work with an agency or independent studio for preparing their print files. Working with an independent studio is often more efficient in time and money. This may well be true but you don’t just give your files to any printing company. You are looking for confidentiality, service, knowledge, effective advice and quick turnaround. Chevalier offers these qualities in spades with 90 years of experience.
